About Ambassador
HEMANT KRISHAN SINGH

Born in 1950, Ambassador H. K. Singh has a M.A. degree from the University of Delhi and joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1974. He is married to Mrs. Mrinalini Singh and they have two children, aged 28 and 26.
Ambassador H. K. Singh has held the assignments of Country Officer for the US (1980-1981), Director for Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan (1991-1992) and Joint Secretary for Western Europe (1992-1995) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
His assignments abroad have included Second Secretary in Lisbon (1976-1977) and in Maputo (1978-1980), First Secretary in Washington D.C. (1981-1985), and Counsellor in Kathmandu (1985-1988) and Belgrade (1988-1991). Ambassador Singh was Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN Offices in Geneva (1995-1999) and Ambassador of India to Colombia, with concurrent accreditation to Ecuador and Costa Rica (1999-2002). Prior to taking up his assignment in Japan, he was Ambassador of India to Indonesia with concurrent accreditation to East Timor.

Madam Mrinalini Singh is an accomplished painter and sculptor. She has held several exhibitions of her art in Geneva, Colombia and Indonesia.

Ambassador and Mrs Singh are keen golfers.
